    The leaf arrangement of the Pacific Madrone is simple and alternate. The leaves are thick and waxy, giving them a leathery texture.

    The bark of the Pacific Madrone is one its most distinguishing features. The bark exfoliates, or sheds, its outmost layer allowing view of a smoother, red bark.
