Characteristics:

The leaves of the Oregon Ash are arranged oppositely and are pinnately compound. The margins of the leaves are entire or serrate. There are 5 to 9 elliptical leaflets and the leaflets tend to be slighlty larger toward the leaf tip. Young leaves can be pubescent (furry). The fruit of the Oregon Ash is a single samara (see our "terms to know" page for a picture of a single samara).

Leaf buds on the Oregon Ash are found at the stem where the whole leaf (not a leaflet) attaches. This photo also shows how the petioles are flattened at the nodes.
