Cost and Funding

The Department of Biology provides at least four years of financial support to doctoral candidates, including 12-month stipends and tuition waivers, contingent on acceptable progress. In practice, students who make satisfactory progress toward their degrees routinely receive additional years of support.

Stipend levels are adjusted annually to be competitive (especially when considering cost of living expenses!) with those offered by other major research universities. Community Information

Outstanding students may qualify for the Genetics Training Grant, the Systems and Integrative Biology Training Grant, the Molecular Biology and Biophysics Training Grant, the Developmental Biology Training Grant, or the NSF IGERT training program in the evolution of development and genomics. These provide a stipend for the full year, a travel and supplies allowance, and a waiver of tuition.

Although support is usually not available for master's students, it can be arranged on a term-by term basis when funds are available.
